It is an 455 square meter school building built in the beginning of 20th century and it is located in Rääkkylä, Finland. Rääkkylä is located in eastern part of Finland and to the closest city it is about 60km drive. Closest train station is about 20km away at Kitee and from Helsinki to Kitee it is a 4.5h trip. The location in the middle of country side, lakes and forests offers a lot.

The idea of Koto Co-op started a couple of years ago in Finland and is a grassroots initiative for a sustainable future where we share our resources, meaning both our materials and our time. With the goal of the well being of our human species being united and in cohabitation with our environment. Instead of the competitive, profit seeking incentive for infinite economic growth, to the detriment of both our individual and our collective health alike. With this in mind the purpose of Koto Co-op is to develop and implement sustainable technologies and social structures that focus on making this vision a reality.
Read moreWhile we feel like it would be nice to boycott money, we think that more effective way is to gather money and other resouces in an co-op and share them to members of that co-op. This makes members free to focus on more important things than just getting paid to survive. We can also provide work for people who will not or cannot take part in any tasks or jobs closely involved with the monetary system. This type of work is for example taking care of the land, buildings, persons and plants.
