In 2025, we identified business development as a key short-term goal in our strategy. Through business activities, the Elokoto Cooperative can fulfill its purpose: to offer members of the cooperative the opportunity to work in a way that provides them with a roof over their heads and food on the table without having to pay rent or any other fees beyond their membership fee. Therefore, developing the business operations is a critical part of the Koto community’s plans for the near future.

This year, we made progress by organizing two workshops in which we identified the seven most promising business areas in which the Elokoto Cooperative could operate. From these seven, we selected three paths to pursue: IT services, retreats and accommodation, and the development of automated irrigation systems.

In addition to the potential business segments and the paths we’ve chosen to focus on, Koto will continue to grow its own produce and forage for wild berries and mushrooms in the future, both for our own use and for sale. We are also open to opportunities for collaboration with other organizations and communities, including volunteer work.

In terms of business development, the Koto community’s long-term goal is to promote community-centered micro-industrial production. You can read more about it in this article.
